In early 2014 I decided to take a portrait photograph of every person living in the small village I live in in the south of Ireland. On a freezing February weekend I convinced the people of Kilbrittain to come to a studio I set up in the town hall to sit for a minute. I took everyones details, age, occupation, whether born in the village etc etc and created a book boldly entitled 'The book of Kilbrittain'
In early 2014 I engaged with the local community of my village of Kilbrittain in West Cork in a project which would enable me to photograph every soul in the village over one weekend in order to create a portrait of a typical rural Irish village as it was in 2014. The project was part funded by the Cork County Arts board and the end result was the production of a book entitled 'The book of Kilbrittain'.
Along with the book a large 5' by 5' framed and beautifully printed photo montage of all the villagers was created and now hangs proudly in the parish hall. Dutch filmmaker and long time friend Finbarr Wilbrink was present to make a small documentary about the project which is online at https://vimeo.com/94774714. Here is a small sample of the portraits.
