Young in uniform.
My Father was very young when he first put on a uniform. First as part of the Boys Brigade and Sea Scouts in St. Lukes, Cork City. He was sent to board at the now long gone Hibernian Marine School in Clontarf, Dublin at aged 11. He graduated at 16 and applied for a position as an Officer at Blue Funnel lines. After passing several exams and outward bounds physical trying he was offered a contract with Blue Funnel with whom he worked for many years.

My father is to the left of the man inspecting. He was obviously a senior at this stage as he seems to be taking part in the inspections.

This is a list of items needed for Dad to start his life at sea. Costing a total of £57 it included clothing, books, charts and instruments.
